Amenities

We have equipped the cottage with as many useful items as possible to make your stay pleasant and comfortable. Below are details of each room and the contents.

The cottage is heated by central heating, but in the months of spring and autumn, to keep the cottage warm you will need to supplement it by using the multifuel stove in the lounge. A great excuse to sit down, drink, chat, read or doze!

Nenthead has a community shop that is great for the basics, and more comprehensive supplies are available in Alston town (5 miles away). It has two mini supermarkets that are open till late, and some fantastic independent shops such as a craft baker, a great delicatessen with nice foodie goodies. There is also a post office and petrol station. If possible please use the local shops for your shopping - it really helps the local economy and feeds money into the businesses directly - thank you.

Please note that you have to have a certain amount of self-sufficiency when staying at the cottage as it is out in the sticks and it's a bit like living 'off grid'. The stove needs tending and if you let it go out it will get cold. The area does have power outages from time to time so be prepared to cook on the multifuel stove or the camping gas cooker by candle light. There is no WiFi and no live television - only DVDs or playback via downloaded films on your device to the TV.
