Experience the remote and fascinating world of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where you can’t help but be thrown back into close contact with nature.

Wellhopegill Cottage is situated on a lane running along the edge of the moorland in the valley above Alston - England's highest town!  The cottage dates from 1640, and provides a great base for walking in the North Pennines and Eden Valley, as well as offering good access to the Unesco World Heritage Sites of Hadrian's Wall, and Durham, the Lake District National Park, and the sophistication of Newcastle and the Metrocentre (Europe's largest indoor shopping centre).

Everyone you meet here will have an entertaining story of how they fell in love with  this unique part of England, and there is a rich tradition of artists and craftspeople responding to its inspiring landscape.
